1. Click on the link above to go to the folder.

2. Download the folder by clicking on the download icon on the top toolbar on the screen.

3. Extract the zip folder and open the intkey.ink file - this opens the digital key

 

The key is simple to use and includes photographs for the majority of the taxa as well as for some of the important characters

 

Once you have opened the key, there is a list of available characters on the left and taxa on the right. The characters can be used in any order to identify a species (this is one of the advantages of a digital key).

1. Double click on a character and select the character state for the species you would like to identify.

2. For a number of characters, I have included an image of the character state. The images opens when you double click the character. If you have closed the image and would like to open it again, select the ‘images’ icon to open the image illustrating the states.

3. Once you have selected a character state, the taxa will immediately be split into eliminated taxa (not the species being identified) and a list of available taxa (that could be your species, or all the species with that specific character state).  The character and state you have used will also be noted in the bottom right block.

4. You may use any number of characters, in any order, to identify your species. The list of taxa will be shorter as you use more characters and narrow down your search.

5. For the different taxa, photographs and distribution maps have been included. To open these, select the taxa and you will see the images available listed on the right.

6. Double click on these or select them and click on the ‘Display’ icon to open these images. To open all the images available for that taxon, click ‘Multiple images’
